Tom Crawford is a Senior Managing Director in the Strategic Communications segment and serves as head of the firm’s Global Advisory Practice at FTI Consulting, and is based in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Crawford focuses primarily on serving clients dealing with freedom to operate (FTO) issues related to complex issues and events. Mr. Crawford’s practice is highlighted by his representation of some of the largest companies in every region in the world. He advises boards of directors, executive teams and senior decision-makers on public-policy issues that pose opportunities and challenges to their organizations' enterprise values.

Mr. Crawford also serves clients in the fields of crisis; regulation; corporate reputation; budget matters; corporate governance; retirement security; and tax policy. He has worked on every budget reconciliation and tax-measure package considered by Congress in the past two decades. Mr. Crawford’s expertise in the area of taxation is highlighted by his representation of some of the largest and most eminent financial-services and life-insurance companies.

Prior to FTI Consulting, Mr. Crawford was a founding partner of government-affairs and lobbying firm, C2 Group, which was acquired by FTI Consulting in 2013. In his role, he oversaw firm’s growth and development into a “Top 20” independent lobbying firm in Washington, D.C. He also was a legislative director and managing partner at Murray, Montgomery and O’Donnell (MMO), a Washington, D.C. firm that specialized in corporate representation.

Before Mr. Crawford came to Capitol Hill, he served as the legislative director in the Michigan Legislature ─ handling tax and finance issues for the Senate-floor leader ─ and on the professional campaign staff through four election cycles for both statewide and federal races.

As a respected public-policy expert, Mr. Crawford is also a member of The Tax Council, and chairman of the board of directors at Harvard University’s Center on Media and Child Health. He has addressed numerous groups around the world on advocacy, insurance, tax policy and the Washington, D.C. process; and has been a lecturer in the Smithsonian series.

Mr. Crawford graduated with honors from Michigan State University, earning bachelor degrees in economics and political science.
