Mark Dewar is the Australian Practice Leader and is a Senior Managing Director in the Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment at FTI Consulting. Mark has more than 20 years of experience principally advising corporations, private equity investors and debt providers. Currently, Mark is based in Sydney, supporting the growth of the firm’s Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment across Australia and the Asia Pacific region.

Mark has been involved in various industries, including financial services, mining, telecommunications, software, retail, engineering, building and construction, and automotive.

Mark’s focus is in helping clients who are undergoing significant change, either through a result of a transaction, or through a period of under-performance. The services Mark typically provides includes advice on complex financial restructurings, preparing or reviewing forecasts, providing cash management and performance improvement services and advising investors who have exposure to, or looking to invest in underperforming or distressed assets. Mark’s assignments have included advising the Australian Boards of the worlds largest private coal mining while its parent was in Chapter 11, advising on the carve out and merger of two of Australia’s largest office supplies businesses, advising the board of a Cypriot Bank through the Greek financial crisis and supporting various hedge funds in the investment in distressed assets in Greece, Ireland, Iceland and Spain.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mark was a director in the London Corporate Finance practice at Ernst & Young. Mark also undertook a 15-month secondment to the Leverage Finance team at the Royal Bank of Scotland in London. During this time, he was responsible for maintaining the bank’s relationship with a number of leverage buyout customers, which included playing a large role in the completion of recapitalisation and refinancing transactions. Prior to joining Ernst & Young, Mark worked for a FTSE 100 IT Services company and for Credit Suisse First Boston in New York. He commenced his career in Australia, where he worked in the Audit practice at Ernst & Young.

Mark holds a B.B. in Accounting from Griffith University. He is a Chartered Accountant and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia.
