Joseph Hansell is a Senior Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in Sydney. Joseph is a member of the Turnaround & Restructuring Services within the Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment. He has 17 years of experience in corporate recovery, restructuring, and turnaround management.
Joseph’s industry expertise includes retail, property, manufacturing, aviation, managed investment schemes and financial services and products.
With extensive experience in corporate advisory matters, Joseph has primarily been involved in providing strategic advice, assisting in negotiations and developing solutions with respect to a range of reconstruction and turnaround proposals. He is valued by companies, lenders and capital providers in evaluating business operations and finances, liquidation analysis, liquidity forecasting, analyzing collateral, and covenant renegotiations, and providing advice on options and contingency planning. Joseph has experience in a range of corporate restructuring and recovery matters, such as receiverships, voluntary administrations and liquidations. These experiences have involved the trading and selling of distressed businesses, conducting independent business reviews, investigations into corporate failures and litigating for the recovery of debts, antecedent and insolvent transactions.
Joseph has been an integral part of a wide range of projects, including being the Receiver and Manager of KJM Contractors, a large vertically-integrated manufacturing and transport operator to the oil and gas sector in Australia, where he was appointed by the Company’s lender to recover USD$70 million in debt financing; being the Voluntary Administrator of Identity Direct, one of Australia’s leading online retailers of personalized children's products operating in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada and the UK; being the Advisor, and subsequently appointed Voluntary Administrator, to SurfStitch Group Limited, an ASX listed online retailer with stores in Australia, the United States and the UK; and being responsible for the trade on and sale of Allco Aviation’s leasing book to HNA Group, including more than 60 aircraft, a book value of USD$3 billion and 23 international non-recourse lenders.
Joseph holds a B.Bus. In Accounting and Finance from the University of Technology, Sydney. Joseph is a Registered Liquidator, a Chartered Accountant (“CA”) and a Justice of the Peace. He is also a member of the Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand and the Australian Restructuring Insolvency Turnaround Association.
