Joe Fan is a Managing Director in the Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment of FTI Consulting and he is based in Shanghai.
Mr. Fan has more than eleven years of experience in the financial services and business advisory industry in China, and he specializes in turnaround management and insolvency matters. His experience includes advising on debt restructuring, interim management, corporate strategy, financial due diligence, forensic accounting and operational improvement in addition to analysing investment opportunities on behalf of international strategic and financial investors.
Mr. Fan has assisted a number of companies by developing turnaround strategies, exiting unprofitable businesses, identifying noncore assets, optimising business structures and restructuring offshore debt.
Mr. Fan has been involved in several large liquidation and debt restructuring assignments in China, including the liquidation of Asia Aluminium, the then largest aluminium extrusion business in the country, and the restructuring of CIT Finance and Leasing Corporation (PRC), the subsidiary of a leading finance and leasing provider in the United States.
In addition to insolvency management, Mr. Fan has been involved in a wide variety of advisory engagements, including identifying critical areas of risk and irregularities for financial investors prior to their investment decisions. Additionally, he has undertaken interim senior executive roles to retain and increase the value of companies facing challenging circumstances. He acted as interim CFO and negotiated the sale of assets on behalf of portfolio companies owned by an international consortium of investors. Mr. Fan also recently served as the interim CEO of a wholly foreign-owned special textile company, during which he fixed the company’s unproductive teamwork culture and improved efficiency amongst staff.
Mr. Fan’s industry experience includes manufacturing, leasing, retailing, technology and renewable energy. Mr. Fan holds a M.B.A. from New York University.
