George A. Saitta, Jr. is involved in the leadership of the SEC & Accounting Advisory practice for FTI Consulting. Mr. Saitta has spent the majority of his 22-year career as a forensic accountant in professional services, consulting with public companies, general counsel, Boards of Directors, Audit Committees and law firm counsel on matters involving application of forensic and technical accounting skill sets to investigate alleged accounting, financial statement and financial frauds, asset misappropriation and embezzlement schemes and whistleblower allegations.
Mr. Saitta has led, managed and performed forensic accounting and internal investigations and technical accounting advisory, internal control remediation, and litigation support engagements, many involving application of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) disclosure rules and regulations, among others. Mr. Saitta has specific experience performing the noted engagements for clients in the hotel and hospitality, financial services, telecommunications, electric vehicle, and oil and gas industries.
More recently, Mr. Saitta led FTI Consulting’s forensic team in investigating the officers and directors of a software company that was forced into Chapter 11 bankruptcy as a result of illicit acts to raise capital through securities offerings, substantiated by fictitious financial statements and business records, and facilitating a continued Ponzi scheme. The results of this forensic accounting investigation served the needs of several stakeholders, including the company’s Chief Restructuring Officer, and bankruptcy and litigation counsel to the company and handling related, litigation matters before the SEC and Department of Justice.
Mr. Saitta also has supported counsel in performing a number of large complex investigations at public companies and involving whistleblower allegations raised to both the company’s Audit Committee and the SEC. These investigations have involved review of alleged revenue recognition issues (under ASC 606); improper capital expenditure accounting; impairment accounting issues; foreign currency accounting issues; officer abuse of perquisites; failed disclosure of related party transactions; payment of bribes and kickbacks; and failed operational and disclosure controls, among other topics. He has presented on the results of investigative procedures before the SEC and its Division of Enforcement, as well as the Board, Audit Committee and other company stakeholders.
Mr. Saitta has been proffered as an expert witness and has testified in defense of expert opinions issued at deposition and arbitration. He also has presented at mediations to facilitate understandings of accounting issues. Mr. Saitta was selected as a member of FTI Consulting’s 2016 Global Managing Director Leadership Forum class and was named as a two-time FTI Awards Finalist for his contributions to the global firm.
