Brendan Shalders is a Managing Director in the Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment of FTI Consulting and is based in Perth, Australia.

A Chartered Accountant with over 13 years’ experience providing financial advisory services to listed corporates, private enterprises and start-ups. Brendan has managed a range of corporate development activities across both the equity and capital markets.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Brendan held senior finance roles at Emeco Holdings Ltd (Emeco), Ascot Resources and Murchison Metal Ltd (MML) over a five-year period. These roles were preceded by seven years at KPMG primarily in the transaction services team based in Australia and Europe.

Brendan has expertise in M&A and capital market projects, working capital and liquidity management, strategic communications and investor relations, financial modelling and forecasting and strategy implementation.

Although Brendan has extensive experience in the mining and mining services industries, his industry experience also includes oil & gas, retail, financial products, transport, renewable energy and education.

Significant Engagements

  • Corporate restructuring:
    • Joint lead manager on corporate restructure of an African based copper miner;
    • Senior team member of corporate restructuring process at Emeco, successfully implementing ~$27 million of cost out initiatives; and
    • Finance lead on synergy identification project for potential $4bn merger of two retail petrol providers in southern Europe.
  • Capital markets, fixed income and debt structuring:
    • Recapitalisation of Emeco’s US$335 million 144A bond facility and debt facilities held by merger parties;
    • Successful 144A bond issuance with Emeco Holdings Ltd;
    • Numerous refinancing projects for listed corporates; and
    • Finance lead on capital funds return at MML.
  • M&A leadership and execution:
    • Emeco’s triparty merger with two major competitors in 2016;
    • Emeco’s acquisition of Rentco Pty Ltd in 2015;
    • Defence of PE takeover of Emeco Holdings Ltd in 2013;
    • Back-door listing of Colombian coal exploration assets into Ascot Resources in 2012; and
    • MML’s divestment of 50% interests in Jack Hills iron ore mine and Oakajee Port & Rail project to Mitsubishi in 2011.
  • Working capital and liquidity management:
    • Development of cash flow monitoring processes and tools; and
    • Development of budgeting and forecasting processes and tools.
