About Veronica
Veronica Irastorza is an expert in competition economics and energy with more than two decades of experience assisting clients across the globe. Ms. Irastorza specializes in regulation and contracts, markets, damages, valuations, mergers and acquisitions, disputes and arbitration. In addition to her energy focus, she has worked on several competition matters related to the transportation and commodities sectors. She has provided oral and written testimonies in several legal disputes and arbitrations, mainly in the energy sector.
As a former undersecretary of energy planning and transition in Mexico, Ms. Irastorza leverages her unique insights to help clients navigate long-term energy project planning, renewable energy and energy efficient policies. She has advised energy companies, regulators and governments in countries including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Honduras, Mexico, Peru and the United States.
Ms. Irastorza has worked on several aspects of the electric power sector, including market design, rate design, policy impacts, risk analysis and cost-benefit analysis for new technologies. In natural gas, she has in-house experience and has advised companies on the effects of new policies and regulations, due diligence, mergers, acquisitions and efficiency. Her work has been published in Bloomberg, The Electricity Journal, Competition Policy International and the Oil & Gas Journal, and presented at numerous conferences.
In the natural gas sector, Ms. Irastorza has advised companies on the effects of new policies and regulations, as well as due diligence and mergers and acquisitions. She has also advised governments and regulators on strategies to design efficient regulations. Ms. Irastorza gained extensive experience in planning and regulatory issues as deputy director of planning for Pemex Gas, Mexico's national gas company, and uses that experience to help her clients address a wide range of challenges.
Ms. Irastorza held several other governmental positions in Mexico — in addition to her time as undersecretary — and has served as a principal at The Brattle Group and an associate director at NERA Economic Consulting, where she worked for more than a decade.
