Joanna Dalton, Ph.D. is a Senior Director in the Forensic Technology and Investigations practice of FTI Consulting, and she is based in Melbourne, Australia.

Dr. Dalton specialises in digital forensics, electronic discovery and technology security incident investigation for corporate and government clients. She holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Hons) in Computer Science. Dr. Dalton has over eight years of experience in digital forensics, forensic investigations, cyber security consulting and security testing.

Dr. Dalton commenced her career with Deloitte & Touche LLP in London, UK, as a digital forensic specialist in the Forensic and Disputes Services practice. Working with multi-national corporations in the UK and across Europe she gained experience in a variety of forensic investigation assignments including fraud, insider trading, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) violations, misuse of corporate IT systems, online gambling, money laundering, defamation and abuse of market position.

During this time, Dr. Dalton worked on one of  the largest FCPA investigations in the world for which she was part of the team performing a very large-scale data collection for electronic discovery, and also developed a specialised forensic software tool for email decryption. The forensic analysis tools she has written as part of her investigation process have been used internationally by both private corporations and law enforcement agencies.

Dr. Dalton moved to Australia in 2008 and continued to work as a digital forensic specialist in a private sector consulting firm where she assisted corporate and government clients with a varied range of digital forensic investigation assignments involving IP theft, fraud, employee misconduct, defamation and insolvency related issues. Some of these matters also involved the execution of search warrants, Anton Piller orders and being appointed as an independent digital forensic expert witness.  Dr. Dalton was also responsible for management of the forensic laboratory and implementation of the data analytics capability for financial investigations.

In 2011, Dr. Dalton joined the Deloitte Touche Tomatsu, Security and Resilience Services practice where she focused on providing security consulting and vulnerability testing services. Dr. Dalton was the national leader of the vulnerability assessment team responsible for performing security testing over a variety of enterprise IT systems for finance, manufacturing, retail, mining and gaming industry clients. Whilst in this role, Dr. Dalton provided PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) and security incident response consulting services; performed IT Security architecture reviews, network, mobile and web application vulnerability assessments; and was also the manager for the security testing function of an Australian bank.

After leaving Deloitte, Dr. Dalton took a senior role as an IT Security and Strategy Manager in the private sector. During this time she was responsible for the management of business critical IT infrastructure, IT projects and the development and implementation of security policies and practices for PCI DSS compliance.
