Jane Bussey is a Managing Director in the FTI Consulting Forensic & Litigation segment and is based in Houston. She has conducted complex and highly sensitive corporate and financial investigations in Latin America, including Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Brazil and Central American countries, as well as the Caribbean. She has overseen and performed work on a series of matters, ranging from business intelligence reports focused on risk for companies interested in investments in the region to internal investigations, anti-corruption issues, asset searches and complex litigation support. As part of her work at FTI Consulting, she has managed post-acquisition due diligence, involving numerous investigations of third-party intermediaries in Latin America, as well as Europe, Asia and Africa.
Ms. Bussey was a long-time correspondent and an investigative business journalist in Latin America and the Caribbean, reporting on financial and banking crises and carrying out extensive investigative reporting in complex fraud cases that often ranged across multiple jurisdictions. She previously lived in Mexico. Because of this work in the region, she has in-depth knowledge of business groups, business and legal culture and political culture in countries across the region.
Prior to joining FTI, Ms. Bussey worked as the Editorial Director at the Latin Trade Group, where, besides directing Latin Trade magazine, she oversaw the conception and the execution of the program and participants - business and political leaders from throughout the region - for the company’s trademark event, the Latin Trade Symposium & BRAVO Business Awards.
Ms. Bussey was a prize-winning staff reporter for The Miami Herald, traveling throughout Latin America to research and write about the regional business, economic, political and security landscape. The issues she covered ranged from globalization, international trade, finance and economics. Her work won a number of honors, including an Overseas Press Club award for coverage of Argentina’s 2001-2002 financial crisis. She shared a Pulitzer Prize for her reporting on the Elian Gonzalez saga.
Ms. Bussey has a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Stanford University, graduating with distinction, and a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies from Stanford University. Ms. Bussey is fluent in English and Spanish and has studied Portuguese, French and German.
