Cara O’Brien Takes Part in China Best Ideas Investment Conference Panel
Investor relations specialist Cara O’Brien (Senior Managing Director in our Hong Kong office) was invited to participate in a panel hosted during the China Best Ideas Investment Conference held in Beijing in September. The panel discussion titled “When a Crisis Strikes: Lessons for Management & Investors,” was moderated by Peking University professor and Chinese accounting issues expert Paul Gillis and focused on crisis management from various viewpoints. Cara shared insights and advice alongside Drew Bernstein, co-managing partner of accounting firm Marcum, Bernstein & Pinchuk and Robert Weber, partner at law firm DLA Piper. The panel discussion highlighted the increasing number of Chinese companies that have been involved in controversies either due to targeted short-seller attacks or shortfalls in accounting and governance practices. Panellists were invited to share thoughts on what risk factors investors should look out for as well as how companies can respond to a crisis of this kind and recover a positive reputation going forward.
Held on 16 September, the China Best Ideas Investment Conference was geared to Chinese companies listed in the U.S., their legal, banking and accounting advisors, and the investment community. The conference provided a valuable opportunity for participants to hear from business and industry thought leaders on a range of topics including China's economic reform efforts, the challenges for Chinese equities, the revival of the China IPO market, and the opportunities for Chinese companies to acquire distressed assets and enterprises in the U.S.
